Harrise

In season

Flowers & Garden

The garden gives me beauty, work for my hands, and proof that a quiet season is not the same as an ending.

Harrise among the garden roses
Harrise outdoors beside the hydrangeas.

I cannot hurry a garden. I can only pay attention, do what the season asks, and trust that something will return.

In my own words

I like a garden with structure, but not obedience. Roses may spill over, herbs may seed where they please, and something useful can grow beside something beautiful. Perhaps that is why I feel at home there: care matters, control only goes so far, and beginning again is part of the arrangement.

Bringing the garden indoors

How the outside world changes the feeling of my home.

The necessary winter

What the garden has taught me about rest and return.

A letter, occasionally
